ETLP™ recognizes experienced practitioners who lead people, teams, and stakeholders with integrity—turning ethical judgment into responsible decisions, action, and accountability.

Who the ETLP™ Is For

ETLP™ is for experienced practitioners who lead people, teams, or stakeholders toward shared outcomes and take responsibility for their decisions and consequences.

A cross-functional leader facilitates a conversation with a colleague

Matrix and cross-functional leaders without formal authority

A community-service team leader listens attentively to a colleague

HR, ethics, nonprofit and public-sector team leaders

A facilitator discusses a shared decision with a partner

Consultants and practitioners leading stakeholder networks

Direct or indirect leadership qualifies; formal reporting authority is not required.

Credential at a Glance

  • Applications are open.

  • Application is free.

  • Certification fee:

    • US$379 after acceptance

    • US$303.20 for ELA members

  • Assessment: 

    • 40 scored open-response questions

    • 150 minutes

  • Delivery: Online through the Aether platform from N2X Labs

  • Credential term: Three years

Eligibility

At least 36 cumulative months of direct or indirect leadership experience. Overlapping periods count once.

 

Complete either preparation pathway:

  • Pathway 1 — Recommended Learning Partner

At least 14 hours of ECO-aligned education with an active ELA Recommended Learning Partner (RLP).

  • Pathway 2 — Other providers

At least 21 hours of leadership education from a recognized provider, plus ELA’s Introduction to Ethical Leadership course (excluded from the 21 hours). A valid ELP™ satisfies only the introductory course; ELP™ is not otherwise required.

 

ELA membership is not required. Submit a free application for eligibility review. After acceptance, pay the certification fee and schedule the assessment when invited.

The ETLP™ Assessment

  • 40 scored open-response questions • 150 minutes • Online via Aether by N2X Labs.

  • Four Domains : 

    • 1. Applied Ethical Judgment and Responsible Decision-Making — 25%

    • 2. Leading People and Teams with Integrity — 30%

    • 3. Ethical Influence, Conflict, and Stakeholder Leadership — 25%

    • 4. Sustaining Ethical Practice, Learning, and Accountability — 20%

  • Responses are evaluated against task-specific evidence indicators, not generic writing quality.

​​How does N2X Labs' Aether platform support the Assessment?

ELA defines competencies, evidence requirements, rubrics and decision standards. N2X Labs’ Aether delivers the assessment and supports analysis; ELA retains certification authority. Review and appeal information will appear on the ELA website and/or in Aether results.

The ETLP™ credential is valid for three years.
To renew:

  • Complete 18 hours of professional development during the three-year cycle

  • Include at least 9 hours in ethics or ethical leadership

  • Submit one short reflective case study demonstrating continued application

No new examination is required under the current policy.
